D.J. Bettencourt is well-known in New Hampshire political circles, and after graduating from law school, he returned to New Hampshire to continue his work in public service.
In 2004, DJ Bettencourt was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He served in the House for eight years, representing district Rockingham-4, and was elected as the House Majority Leader in 2010.
As Majority Leader, D.J. Bettencourt worked to advance a conservative agenda in New Hampshire, focusing on issues such as tax reform, education reform, and healthcare policy. He was a vocal advocate for smaller government and greater individual freedom, and he worked closely with Governor Chris Sununu to advance their shared policy goals.
In 2012, D.J. Bettencourt resigned from the House of Representatives to take a position as the policy director for Governor Sununu. In this role, he worked to develop and implement the Governor’s policy agenda, helping to shape the direction of the state on issues such as energy policy, economic development, and healthcare reform.
In 2019, DJ Bettencourt was appointed as New Hampshire’s Deputy Insurance Commissioner, where he continues to advance the interests of the state’s consumers and promote a competitive marketplace for insurance products. In this role, he is responsible for regulating insurance companies and overseeing the state’s insurance market, working to ensure that New Hampshire residents have access to high-quality insurance products at affordable prices.
D.J. Bettencourt has had a long and distinguished career in public service in New Hampshire. As a member of the House of Representatives, he worked to advance conservative policies and advocate for individual freedom and smaller government. As policy director for Governor Chris Sununu, he helped shape the state’s direction on key policy issues. And as Deputy Insurance Commissioner, he continues to work to promote a competitive insurance marketplace and protect the interests of New Hampshire consumers.
